What a great weekend. This weather!! So beautiful! I spent all day Friday at the Country Living Fair. My fourth year attending. Love that fair! So many great finds. I will say though, this is the first year my mom and I have gone on the first day and it seemed like items were priced much higher than the second day (when we normally go). So, I didn’t get as much as I have in the past. But it was still well worth the trip. Even though it was almost unbearably hot!! Probably the hottest day the fair has ever had in Columbus.
The highlight of my trip was when we saw the editor-in-chief of Country Living magazine, Rachel Hardage Barrett, and I was able to tell her about my blog. Not sure if she’ll ever look at it. But I was very much fan-girling over the moment.
Yesterday Grayson (my 8yo) and I went out and got our pumpkins. Now to find a place for all of them. 🙂
But onto today’s post, which is all about garage doors. I know that sounds boring BUT that’s what the post is all about…they don’t HAVE to be boring.
Do you love the look of craftsman garage doors? But can’t justify buying brand new ones because yours work just fine? Me too!!! But who says you can’t get the same look for a lot less money?
I absolutely love everything craftsman. But back when our home was built, 12 years ago, craftsman homes were not the “in” thing. They are all the rage now. And I am loving them!!
Three years ago we repainted the exterior of our home. And I knew I wanted to change up the look of our garage doors. Knowing the look I wanted, I went straight to Amazon and found exactly what I was looking for.
I searched for faux windows and found these…Coach House Accents Simulated Garage Door Window (2 windows per kit) – White – Model AP143199…For only $99 per box. I ordered 4 for my large garage door and 2 for my 3rd bay. (Keep in mind you get two windows per kit. So I purchased three kits). As you can see, these come in white. We painted ours a brown color to match our trim. They were super easy to install.
But we didn’t stop there. To complete the Craftsman look, we also ordered hardware from Amazon. We ordered two packages of Spear Style Carriage House hardware Sold by: Unique Supply for less than $16 each. Along with, two pairs of Carriage Handles for $9 per pair.
The hardware was as simple to install as: 1. Measuring where we wanted to place them and 2. Drilling them in. For less than $500 we completely changed the look of our garage doors. We had many people ask us if we had gotten new garage doors. We got the look of brand new Carriage House garage doors without spending thousands of dollars. I am happy to say, they have held up well. Three years later, they look as good as new.
Amazing how such a simple, inexpensive change can update the look of your home. Have you updated your garage doors recently? If so, I would love to see the style you went with. And possibly feature them in an upcoming post. Please email me pictures or questions/comments at firstname.lastname@example.org. I answer all emails. 🙂
I’ll meet you back here next week, when I’ll share with you where I put all those pumpkins. 🙂
