Mudroom Makeover-The Plan and Process

Hey guys!! Over the last 6 weeks, I have been doing a full makeover on my mudroom. Participating in the One Room Challenge, I completed this mudroom makeover and am loving it!! Functional projects are the best!! My kiddos now have a place to put all of their stuff when they get home from school. Actually getting them to do that and breaking their habit of backpacks landing in the kitchen…well that’s a whole other task in itself; we’re working on it. 🙂

I wanted to make it easy to refer to all of my mudroom makeover posts in one central location. Just in case, you decide to use it as a guide to makeover your own mudroom. Which would be awesome! Please send me pictures…I love seeing what projects you’re tackling!!

Our mudroom is right off the garage and separate from our laundry room. When we first moved into our home (11 years ago), it was just a small room with a decent size coat closet. About a year ago, I had my handyman tear down the coat closet wall and completely open up that space….with plans to do a full makeover on the room and transform it into an actual functional mudroom. Well, then life happened and other projects took precedence…until 6 weeks ago. And here we are today with a beautiful, functional mudroom.

So let’s recap…

MUDROOM MAKEOVER–THE PLAN AND PROCESS

Week one was all about the MUDROOM MAKEOVER PLAN

Three keys: Function, Organization, Storage…and of course Style–which I guess makes it four keys. 🙂

Week two was all about the MUDROOM MAKEOVER PROJECT

shiplap walls

Focus: Ripped out old builder’s grade trim and put up craftsman trim; built bench with cubbies underneath in preparation for lockers to sit on top of; added shiplap to all of the walls.

Week three we could see it all coming together. MUDROOM MAKEOVER PROGRESS

car siding

Project: Built lockers and utility tools space; added car siding to ceiling; trimmed out locker space.

Week four took away the drab and brought in some color. MUDROOM MAKEOVER PAINT

Painted: the lockers, doors, walls, trim, and car siding ceiling.

Week five we talked about the process. MUDROOM MAKEOVER PROCESS

bulletin board, chalkboard, whiteboard

Process: Seeing some of the finished product and shopping for decor.

Week six was the Tah-Dah moment!! MUDROOM MAKEOVER FINAL REVEAL

Pretties: All the beautiful pictures. And a look at the “before” and “after” — Amazing!!! Step back and admire the hard work. 🙂

Of course, like any project, this mudroom makeover has sparked ideas for the space right next to it–the kitchen. For quite some time now, I have wanted to redo our kitchen, but all I can see is $$ signs. 🙁 I’m kinda thinking I may go a different route to achieve my kitchen goals. Baby steps…it’s all about baby steps. I’ll keep you posted. 🙂

Until next time,

Happy Building Friend!!
