Recap of 2018–Projects, Makeovers and Interior Design

Hey guys! I know we’re all in the thick of the holidays, so I thought I would jump in here with an easy post to end the year with a recap of projects we got done this year.

NEW FURNITURE

We started off 2018 with new furniture for the family room. Out with the red and in with the grays. I love it!! You have to check out the post to see the big change the more neutral furniture made. I was happy to get rid of the red, especially with my pale blue walls.

TEEN BEDROOM MAKEOVER

Wrapping up a project from 2017, my daughter’s room came together very well. The before and afters of this space are definitely worth clicking through. It’s amazing how a makeover can make a room feel bigger. We got rid of old carpet and brightened up the space with white walls. And of course a little shiplap mixed with board and batten is always a nice touch. 🙂 It’s the perfect space for a teenager.

Modern Teen Bedroom Makeover--What to Tackle First

HALLWAY MAKEOVER

Speaking of shiplap, I found some more walls to shiplap on the main floor. Because I wanted to try out some different wall planking ideas, I didn’t go with my usual underlayment “shiplap” for these walls. Instead, I brought in some textures with pallet boards and had a lot of fun staining them with different tones. Love how this accent wall turned out…

And once again, I finished this space off with some board and batten. Such a great and easy way to add character to any room…

ALCOVE MAKEOVER

Then I tried another “shiplap” technique, using 1×6 pine wood boards. As you’ll see in this post, this is probably the last time I’ll use this method. But not because I don’t like the look of it. I do love how it finished off this alcove and made the space behind our massive sliding barn door even more beautiful….

Amongst all of my projects, I did squeak out a few orders too…

Farm Tables….

Shutters…

And my most important “order”–shutters for my mom and dad….

Challenges…

2018 was the year of building challenges for me. Starting with the Instagram Builder’s Challenge in the Spring, where I built this farmhouse industrial desk….

And wrapping up with the One Room Challenge in the Fall, where I did a complete makeover on our mudroom. This was such a rewarding project and is probably one of my most practical makeovers. Changing this space from a coat closet to lockers, really opened up the room and made it so much more functional. We all love this makeover! It doesn’t even look like the same room. You have to check it out, to see the transformation.

People often ask me, what will you do when you run out of rooms to remodel? Honestly, I move pretty slowly on projects, so that’s not likely. But if I did happen to makeover all the rooms, I think I would have to start rotating through them again, or we would have to move and start over on a new house (or maybe a fixer-upper–that would be fun!).

I love this stuff so much and as much as I love the finished project, I also love brainstorming which one I’m going to do next. Demo day is definitely one of my favorite parts of a renovation.

And of course, my mind has been reeling with plans for 2019 and what projects to tackle. 🙂

But until then,

Happy building, friends!!
