The Nursery!! So Fun!

What a fun project!! A little over a week ago, I had the honor of creating my brother and his wife’s nursery. Baby Lucas is due to make his appearance at the end of April. And we. can’t. wait!!!

I love, love, love the theme they chose…Monsters! Not the Monsters Inc. monsters, but these monsters…

Nursery Monsters

Adorable, right!!??? What child could ever be afraid of monsters when they look like this??

And this room…

The perfect room for a nursery.. so bright and cheery. Of course that’s the before picture.

I started off by painting the top of the walls Valspar Elephant Gray…

Because of the yellow that gray took on a blue tone at first.

I then came home and cut all my MDF boards for the board and batten bottom…

MDF Boards

I learned a valuable lesson after cutting these boards. It was cold, so I kept my garage door closed. Big Mistake!! What a mess!! I had to shop-vac the entire garage. MDF dust EVERYWHERE!! Note to self: Only cut MDF boards when it’s nice out!!

Ryobi table saw

Now picture that stuff all over everything in the garage. Not Fun!!!

Once I had all my boards cut, I started placing them. We went with a 6 inch board across the top horizontally and 4 inch boards vertically spaced 11 inches apart….

Next came taping off the stripes. Which required some math–not my strong suit. I usually end up calling my dad to double check myself. 🙂 Once I got it all evenly spaced out, I used my level, drew my horizontal lines and then taped it off…

I love how we striped only one wall as an accent. I alternated the Elephant gray (light) with a darker gray, Valspar Voyage…

Nursery Makeover 5

Again, it looks blue, but it really is gray. 🙂

While that paint was drying, I caulked all of my exposed seams on the board and batten and then started painting it all white. MDF tends to soak up paint, so it did take two coats. Not too bad…

Nursery Makeover 4

Isn’t that gorgeous??!! Such an easy wall treatment that changes the look of a room tremendously. Adding dimension and character…

I am so in love with this room. Can’t wait for the arrival of baby Lucas to complete it. 🙂

Do you have a room that could use some zing to it? I would love to help you out with ideas. I’m also taking on some projects outside of my home. If you’re interested, let me know.
