Weekends at the Hospital Were Slow–My Story

Weekends at the hospital

Weekends at the hospital were pretty slow. No therapies. No doctor calls. The time just creeped by. We tried to fill our time with family and friends. The kids would come up to see Corey throughout the weekend too. I always looked forward to having the kids up there with us. But my fairy-tale thoughts of their dad being excited to see them or us being one big, normal, happy family again, would quickly fade. The reality was, Corey still wasn’t all “there” and he would often be selfish and protective with his stuff in the room. I would feel like I was walking on egg shells…making sure they didn’t get too loud, or touch any of his stuff. It was anything but normal.

Thankfully, as the saying goes, kids are so resilient. They were happy to see their daddy and excited to tell him about their latest adventures.

July 24, 2011:

The kids came up and spent the day with us today. Grayson “kinda” played cars with you. Ty gave you a balloon in your left hand and then Grayson gave you a car; which you had to take in your right hand. I told Grayson he’s good therapy for you. Make you work on that right side. πŸ™‚ Of course, Lauryn didn’t want to be left out, so she gave you some of her Polly Pockets to keep. πŸ™‚ I think you were a little overwhelmed with all of the stuff and attention.

We decided to get some fresh air and take you for a walk in your wheelchair. The kids loved it!! To them, your wheelchair was the coolest thing ever. πŸ™‚

When the kids left, they all gave you kisses. Grayson kissed you on the lips and you kissed him back!! My heart melted! There’s normal. πŸ™‚ If just a glimpse. It was a good day.
